PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for executing color gamut compression, which effectively reduces a size of an image file. SOLUTION: The method comprises stages of: (a) receiving pixels indexed to colors of a first pallet; (b) receiving a threshold; (c) selecting one color of the first pallet as a color of a second pallet and maps the selected color; (d) calculating a color difference between another color of the first pallet and each color of the second pallet; (e) designating another color of the first pallet as another color of the second pallet to map another color of the first pallet in the case of all color differences exceeding the threshold and maps another color of the first pallet to a color of the second pallet in the other case; (f) repeating stages (d) and (e) for all colors of the first pallet; and (g) indexing pixels to colors of the second pallet again in accordance with mapping between colors of the first pallet and the second pallet.
