Navigation and positioning system for a road image capture system mounted on a motor vehicle is for determining the distance between at least one measurement arrangement and the road markings. The measurement arrangement comprises at least one camera that continually records an image of the road markings. The camera constantly transfers its images to an evaluation unit which has image processing software for determining the distance to the road markings. An LED light strip is used to indicate to the driver the distance to the road markings.
