The arrangement includes a sensor detecting collision with cyclist or pedestrian and a mechanism which releases the bonnet lock (5) in the event of collision before the bonnet is raised. The lock and lifting devices (6, 8) are formed as separate components. The lock can be electrically and/or mechanically coupled to a lift mechanism. The lift mechanism can be an airbag.
