PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of reducing a processing time by discriminating whether an image of an original is a color image or a black/white image during reading of the image and easily performing proper output processing on the basis of the discrimination result of whether the image is the color image or the black/white image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a storage means 4 for storing image data by a prescribed color system capable of acquiring lightness L and chroma C; discrimination means 15, 26 for discriminating whether an image of image data by the prescribed color system is a color image or a black/white image: and an output control means 27 for performing reading of the image data stored in the storage means 4 and outputting all components when the discrimination result by the discrimination means 15, 26 indicates the color image and performing output of only components with respect to the lightness L by reading the image data stored in the storage means 4 when the discrimination indicates the black/white image.
