PURPOSE: To provide a biodegradable resin composition which is excellent in strength, water resistance, moldability, heat resistance, etc., quickly decomposed by microorganisms widely present in nature when disposed of, and suitable for molded articles used in various fields. CONSTITUTION: The biodegradable resin composition contains a biodegradable resin and a filler with its surface coated with the biodegradable resin. The filler is at least one selected from among mica, talc, and montmorillonite, is contained in an amount of 5.0-50.0 mass%, and has an average particle size of 0.01-200 μm. The biodegradable resin is an aliphatic polyester resin, which is polylactic acid. The composition may further contain at least one flame-retardant component selected from silicone compounds, metal salts, metal hydroxide salts, and phosphorus compounds and at least one fibrous component selected from glass fibers and carbon fibers.
