PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire grate type waste incinerator where fire grates are not damaged and capable of heightening the quality of incineration ash by removing hazardous substances. SOLUTION: The fire grate type waste incinerator includes three kinds of fire grate consisting of water-cooled fire grates, fire grates which can change between water-cooling and air-cooling, and air-cooled fire grates. The disposition of the fire grates is partitioned into a water-cooled area A having the water-cooled fire grates, a water-cooling/air-cooling change area B having the fire grates which can change the water-cooling and air-cooling, and an air-cooled area C having the air-cooled fire grates. The fire grates in the water-cooling/air-cooling change area B are such constituted that a fire grate positioned on the upstream of a main combustion completion point performs as the water-cooled fire grate and that a fire grate positioned on the downstream of the main combustion completion point performs as the air-cooled fire grate following movement of the main combustion completion point.
