<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide viewing angle liquid crystal display with reduced side light leakage. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is constituted by containing: a thin film transistor display panel 1 and a color filter display panel 2; a liquid crystal layer 3; first and second polarizing films 12, 14; first and second protective films 13, 23 which protect these polarizing films; a first uniaxial compensation film (C-plate) 14 and a first reciprocal dispersion retardation film 15 disposed between the thin film transistor display panel 1 and the first protective film 13; and a second uniaxial compensation film 24 and a second reciprocal dispersion retardation film 25 disposed between the color filter display panel 2 and the second protective film 23. The major axis of each liquid crystal molecule of the liquid crystal layer is nearly perpendicular to the two display panels, and the uniaxial compensation films are negative uniaxial compensation films and generate a total retardation of 0 to 200 nm to a light having 550 nm wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
