摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyalkyl-substituted aromatic aldehdye by subjecting the corresponding polyalkyl-substituted aromatic compound to quick formylation under mild conditions to profitably produce the aldehyde. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyalkyl-substituted aromatic aldehdye, comprising formylating the polyalkyl-substituted aromatic compound having three to five 1 to 3C alkyl substituents with carbon monoxide in the presence of hydrogen fluoride and boron trifluoride, is characterized by using 1 mole of the polyalkyl-substituted aromatic compound as a raw material, 2.5 to 5.0 moles of the hydrogen fluoride as a catalyst and a solvent, and 1.0 to 2.5 moles of the boron trifluoride as a catalyst.
