<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a thin type liquid crystal display device having an angle forming director and high image quality at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The transflective liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate which have a reflection section and transmission section disposed to face each other and apart at a specified interval; a first optical retardation film which is formed on the surface of the outer side of the first substrate and has a first optical axis; a first polarizing plate which is formed on the upper part of the first optical retardation film and forms the angle θ with the first optical axis; a common electrode which is formed on the internal surface of the first substrate; pixel electrodes which are formed on the internal surface of the second substrate; a second optical retardation film which is formed on the surface of the outer side of the second substrate and has a second optical axis forming the angle 3θ+90° with the first transmission axis; a second polarizing plate which is formed in the upper part of the second retardation film and has the second transmission axis forming the angle 4θ with the first transmission axis; and a liquid crystal layer which is formed between the common electrode and the pixel electrodes and has the director forming the angle 2θ+45° with the first transmission axis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
