[Also in'Division E1] Concrete articles having side walls with projecting or recessed portions are oast in a vibrated flexible mould the side walls of which are sufficiently rigid, or are externally supported, so as to remain rigid during the moulding, but which may be subsequently flexed to facilitate easy withdrawal of the article. As shown in the Figure, a building slab 1 is cast in a flexible mould having a thin bottom 9 and thicker stepped side walls 7, which are externally reinforced by rigid supports 8. After the moulding the supports 8 are removed and the walls flexed outwards as in Fig. 4 (not shown) to facilitate removal of the finished slab. Alternatively the walls may be of uniform thickness and externally rigidly supported over their whole, height by a suitable support (see Fig. 5, not shown).
