PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mesoporous silica useful as a separation adsorbent, packing agent for chromatography, treating agent for waste water, catalyst or the like and having superior long-range order and structural uniformity as a whole and a wide range of spatial symmetry, and to provide a method for rapidly manufacturing the above mesoporous silica by using a single kind of a structure inducing agent. SOLUTION: A structure inducing agent and an organic silicon compound are uniformly mixed to form a lyotropic liquid crystal phase and to form a specified stereostructure. Further, an acid aqueous solution is rapidly added to form a lyotropic liquid crystal-silica composite structure, from which the structure inducing agent is removed to produce mesoporous silica.
