PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking apparatus for sliding doors wherein the sliding doors are simply locked and unlocked by continuously, smoothly changing the relative interval between locking members. SOLUTION: The auxiliary locking apparatus 1 comprises: a support cylinder 3 for rotatably supporting a screw shaft 2; a pair of pivoting shafts 4 projecting from the outer-periphery section of the support cylinder 3 in the direction of the outside of a diameter; a pair of locking members 5 whose base edge sections are rotatably pivoted to respective pivoting shafts 4; a slider 7 where the screw shaft 2 is screwed in penetration and a contact section 6 that comes into contact with the internal surfaces of both the locking members 5 that oppose each other; and an operating member 8 for rotating and operating the screw shaft 2.
