PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce malinfluence of high-frequency noise, electric power loss and heat rise without wasteful operation of a clock signal. SOLUTION: In an electronic endoscope including an electronic scope and a processor, the processor has a control part and an image signal output part for outputting an image signal to an external device. An effective image area outputted to the external device is composed of an endoscope image area and a character information area. The control part controls the processor so that an image signal outside an effective image area inputted from the electronic scope is inputted as a signal of a fixed value to the image signal output part.
