The invention relates to a method for producing hydroperoxy fatty acids by oxidizing polyunsaturated fatty acids comprising at least two double bonds in the fatty acid molecule, particularly polyunsaturated fatty acids such as arachidonic acid or eicosapentaenoic acid. The invention relates to the production of a transgenic organism, preferably a transgenic plant or a transgenic microorganism, having an increased hydroperoxy fatty acid content due to the expression of a lipoxygenase from Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Also disclosed are expression cassettes containing a nucleic acid sequence, a vector, and organisms containing at least one nucleic acid sequence or an expression cassette. |
