The method and apparatus (2) are for the collection of straw on a mink farm, where the straw is placed under the mink cages and is withdrawn by a mechanical rake (8) with a telescopic rake part (10). A motor vehicle is used which runs between the mink cages and on which the mechanical straw rake is mounted. The telescopic rake part is inserted beneath the cages to withdraw the straw into the gangway (12) where the vehicle is used. - The vehicle used is a mini-tractor (4). The mechanical rake is fitted in a lift arm system (6) at the front end of the tractor and the straw raked out into the gangway is collected in a single work process by a bale press (16) mounted at the rear end of the tractor.
