Method of treating addictive behaviour by administering a GVG drug also known as the epileptic vigabatrin (sabril)

A method for changing addiction related behaviour of a subject suffering from addiction to cocaine comprises administrating a composition including gamma vinyl GABA (GVG) in amount an amount to diminish, inhibit or eliminate behaviour associated with cravings, or in an amount to attenuate the rewarding/incentive effects of cocaine in the absence altering rewarding/incentive effects of food. Also described are methods for changing addiction-related behaviour of primate suffering from an addiction to a drug of abuse selected from methamphetamine, morphine and heroin, and methods of ameliorating effects of psychostimulants, narcotic analgesic, alcohol or nicotine addiction and dependency characteristics by administrating GVG.
