PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact on-line polishing device of roll surface excellent in a foreign matter removing function and also excellent in maintenance property with a. SOLUTION: In this polishing device of roll surface 40, a block-like roll abrasive material 10 is pressed onto a rotating roll surface to remove foreign matters on the roll surface. The roll abrasive material 10 is arranged in the roll lateral direction. The surface 39 to make contact with the roll surface of the roll abrasive material 10 has clearances 13 and 14 provided at prescribed intervals in the roll lateral direction, and the direction of the clearances 13 and 14 is inclined by a prescribed angleαto the roll rotating direction.
