PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alternative material for packing timber which has initial strength, nailing properties and nail holding force even after being left in outdoor environment and can be served at a lower cost than pine timber while possessing qualities equal to New Zealand pine used at the present time. SOLUTION: The alternative material for timber is made by thermally compressing an entangled fiber bundle, which comprises 100 parts by mass of a reclaimed fiber and 30 to 50 parts by mass of a thermoplastic resin fiber having a melting point lower than the deteriorating temperature of the reclaimed fiber, at a temperature higher than the melting point of the thermoplastic resin fiber but not deteriorating the reclaimed fiber. Its density is from 0.4 to 0.7 g/cm<SP>3</SP>. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
