<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material having high capacity and excellent cycle characteristics, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using it. <P>SOLUTION: This positive electrode active material is formed by mixing lithium having a layered structure, a nickel compound oxide, and a lithium composite oxide having a layered structure, whereof shrinkage from the maximum value of a lattice constant c with desorption of lithium is smaller than that of the lithium and the nickel compound oxide. This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is provided with the positive electrode containing the positive electrode active material, a negative electrode containing a lithium metal, and a lithium alloy or a material capable of doping and de-doping lithium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and the positive electrode active material is formed by mixing lithium having the layered structure, the nickel compound oxide, and the lithium compound oxide having the layered structure, whereof shrinkage from the maximum value of the lattice constant c with desorption of lithium is smaller than that of the lithium and the nickel compound oxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
