PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the lighting duration of backlight variable according to a screen display mode and a user's desire by adding an on/off-function for the backlight to a display part. SOLUTION: Various operation modes are set in an operation mode setting means 11 in advance, and the lighting duration of the backlight after stopping a key operation is set in a lighting time setting means 12 for each operation mode. The various operation modes are associated with light durations, respectively, and stored as setting data in a storing means 8. When a desired operation mode hereafter performed is inputted by an operating means 7, the desired operation mode is transferred to a reading means 13. The reading means 13 reads setting data that corresponds to the desired operation mode from the storing means 8 and extracts lighting duration that corresponds to the desired operation mode. A lighting time clocking means 14 starts to count a lighting time of the backlight from the time when a key operation is stopped and turns on the backlight of a display means 6 until the extracted lighting duration.
