<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lower-cost color image forming apparatus on the premise that necessary precision is kept by using a common sensor as both a position shift detecting sensor essential to the color image forming apparatus as well as density detection and an image density sensor. <P>SOLUTION: This color image forming apparatus has a density pattern forming means of forming density patterns for density detection by colors on recording paper, light sources which irradiate the density patterns formed by the density pattern forming means with visible detection light and are less than the colors of the density patterns, a photodetecting means of receiving reflected light of the detection light reflected by the density patterns, a density detecting means of detecting the density of the density patterns on the recording paper with the output of the photodetecting means, and a development agent density estimating means of estimating developing material density according to the density detected by the density detecting means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
