PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical memory system which thoroughly rectifies conventional defects, improves the rapidity of hologram recording, increases the volume of data recordable in one recording process and can enhance recording performance. SOLUTION: Writing speed and writable capacity are increased by enhancing the high-speed reactivity/resolving power of a spatial optical modulator used in modulation of recording light for a volume holographic memory and a spatial optical modulator using a ferroelectric liquid crystal is provided.
