A metal skeleton structure (24) comprising a network of electrically conductive dams (24, 24) is subjected to a preferential growth step using a galvanic coating method, in which growth of the structure is carried out predominantly on the short dams. A method for making a metal mesh material comprises the following steps: (1) using a galvanic coating technique to form a metal skeleton structure on electrically conductive regions of a network of electric conductors (14) defining insulating regions (12); (2) removing the metal skeleton structure from the conductors; and (3) using galvanic coating techniques to grow the removed metal skeleton structure to the desired thickness in a preferential manner, this preferential growth being designed so that the metal coating is deposited at different rates in different directions. The metal skeleton structure comprises a network of electrically conductive dams defining a pattern of grooves. The preferential growth of the removed metal skeleton structure is carried out predominantly on the short dams. |
