PURPOSE: To provide a color display device capable of improving contrast without degrading an open area ratio. CONSTITUTION: A thin-film transistor 13 is formed on a substrate 12, and an insulation layer 15 for a black matrix is formed so as to cover the thin-film transistor 13. Then, organic EL elements 16 equipped with luminous layers made of organic EL layers 18 are formed in a matrix shape on the insulation layer 15 for black matrix, with a light-taking out direction from the organic EL elements 16 on an opposite side of the substrate against the insulation layer 15 for black matrix. Further, a color filter is provided at an opposite side of the insulation layer 15 for black matrix of the organic EL elements so that a boundary of each pixel 23b of the color filter 23 is to face a boundary of a pixel electrode 17 of each organic EL element. |
