PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover a file space of a minimum allocation unit including a position where an input/output error has actually occurred by securing an alternative file space of a minimum allocation unit and performing substitution. SOLUTION: A file access means 6 instructs a real file input/output means 11 to access a duplex file 3 according to a file access instruction from a job 5. For reference, the contents of a master 4a is read. For update, the contents are written to the master file 4a and a subordinate file 4b. When an input/output error is returned from the real file input/output means 11, a file restoring means 7 secures the alternative file space 10 of a minimum allocation unit instead of the file space of a minimum allocation unit including the error occurrence position and writes the contents out. In this case, file space information 8a or file space information 8b is so updated that the alternative file space 10 is used in place of the file space at the error occurrence place.
