A book casing-in machine comprising means for successively transporting fillers and cases along first and second paths, respectively, to a book-assembling station and means adjacent at least one of said paths for applying adhesive to either the filler or case of each book prior to assembly, is characterized in that heating means are provided adjacent at least one path for heating either the filler or case of each book prior to assembly to expedite the setting of the adhesive. Cases 12 are separated from the bottom of a stack in a magazine 10 by a pair of reciprocating pushers 18. The cases are fed along two parallel guide rails 16 to a forming and creasing unit A comprising a reciprocating head 38 and creaser blades 40. From here, the case is fed by a second pair of reciprocating pushers 28 to the assembly station B. The pushers 18, 28 comprise spring-loaded pins mounted on racks 26, 36, respectively. At the assembly station, the case 12c is supported by opposed channel-section members 42. The fillers 50 are carried upwardly by blades 48 between adhesive applying rollers 56 and into contact with a case which is folded about the filler by U-shaped guides 58. Finally, the casedin book is pressed between spring-pressed rollers 62. Heating elements 68, 72, 74 and 78, such as quartz lamps, are provided adjacent the magazine, forming and creasing unit, assembly station and blades, respectively, to heat the inner surface of a case and the sides of a filler prior to assembly to facilitate setting of the adhesive.
