BASE ISOLATION SYSTEM FOR BUILDING STRUCTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation system for a building structure providing a sense of security by greatly reducing strong horizontal acceleration and vertical vibration in earthquakes to minimize damage to the building itself and equipment within the building and bodily sensations to earthquakes. SOLUTION: The base isolation system is set between the foundation 3 and the sill 41 of a building. Strong horizontal accelerations acting on the building are subjected to base isolation by the vibration-damping function of an upper fixed plate 6 fixed on a base 1 via a column 4 and a pendulum plate 27 of a pendulum structure which is hung from the fixed plate 6 by a plurality of pendulum plate hanging shafts 17. Vertical vibrations are absorbed by an elastic member 25 such as a coned disc spring that is provided on each shaft 17, together with a spherical plain bearing 22. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
