PURPOSE: A back light assembly and a liquid crystal display employing the back light assembly are provided to remarkably reduce the thickness, weight and volume of the back light assembly and liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: A back light assembly(600) includes a light guide plate, a light reflector(200), at least two lamps(300) and a container(400). The light guide plate has a light receiving face, a light reflecting face that reflects lights inputted to the light receiving face, and a light projecting face that projecting the reflected lights. The light receiving face and light reflecting face has the first distance between them, and the light receiving face and the light projecting face also has the first distance between them. The light reflector surrounds the light receiving face to form a space where lamps are arranged outside the light receiving face. The lamps are arranged in parallel having the second distance between them. The sum of the diameters of the lamps and the second distance is longer than the first distance. The container contains the light reflector and light guide plate.
