<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent protein bonding to a specific ligand for a material to be detected in a bonding ratio of 1:1, and having fluorescent activities which is not damaged by the bond to the ligand; to provide a complex comprising the fluorescent protein and the ligand; and to provide a method for detecting a material by using the complex as a label. <P>SOLUTION: The calcium-bonding type fluorescent protein having cysteine introduced into the fourth amino acid residue from the amino terminal of a natural fluorescent protein is produced. The ligand specific to the material to be detected is bonded at the ratio of 1:1 through the introduced cysteine to provide the complex.
