PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal lens that has a simple structure and that enables a focal point to be variably controlled very easily and quickly. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal lens is equipped with a first substrate having a transparent first electrode, a second electrode having a hole, and a first liquid crystal layer which is stored between the first substrate and the second electrode in a manner opposing the first electrode and which has liquid crystal molecules oriented in one direction. This liquid crystal lens performs orientation control for the liquid crystal molecules by applying an electric voltage between the first and second electrodes. It is characterized in that a first insulation layer is arranged between the second electrode having the hole and the first liquid crystal layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
