PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing p-hydroxyphenylalkanols represented by formula (III) in a high yield. SOLUTION: Phenols represented by formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkyl-substitutable phenyl or the like) are reacted with unsaturated alcohols represented by formula (II): R<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>C=C(R<SP>5</SP>)-C(R<SP>6</SP>)(R<SP>7</SP>)-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-OH (wherein R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>represents hydrogen or an alkyl; n is an integer of 0-7) in the presence of at least one kind of compound selected from (A) at least one kind of compound selected from a group consisting of an alkali metal, a basic alkali metal compound and an alkaline earth metal compound and (B) at least one kind of compound selected from transition metal compounds to produce the p-hydroxyphenylalkanols represented by formula (III) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP>and n are each described above).
