PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display which displays picture information of a wide view angle without combining many projectors and prevents the influence of a shadow made by user. SOLUTION: Light beams emitted from the projector 1 are horizontally divided into two groups with a cleavage optical system 2. Each of the groups into which the light beams are divided with the cleavage optical system 2 is changed in direction by a synthetic optical system 3 and projected onto a screen 4. The synthetic optical system 3 combines the groups of light beams on screen 4, thereby reproducing picture information. Distortion of the picture information caused by the cleavage optical system 2 and the synthetic optical system 3 is offset using a picture information processing section 5 that corrects picture information provided for the projector 1.
