<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a basic function for image reproduction with low cost, and to easily expand the basic function to a multi-function in succession by adding optional units. <P>SOLUTION: A base engine 100 includes a process controller 102, a video control unit 105, an I/O control unit 106, a memory module 107, etc. The base engine 100 is attached to units such as an operating part 110 for configuring a copy machine as a basic function of the image reproduction, a sensor board unit 111, a writing control unit 112, and a peripheral machine 113. When the function of the base engine 100 is expanded, a controller board is attached via a parallel bus 120, and a variety of function-specific applications are added-in to the controller board.
