<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solenoid valve for flow control allowing precise control of the flow rate of a fluid. <P>SOLUTION: In a variable discharge high pressure pump P, a low pressure fuel supplied from a feed pump P1 is absorbed into a pressure chamber 4a via the solenoid valve 6 and low pressure flow paths 17, 18, 19. The fuel absorbed into the pressure chamber 4a is compressed with the reciprocation of a plunger 3a and delivered to a common rail. The solenoid valve 6 has a communication flow path 71 provided in a valve element 63, one end (a left end in Fig.) thereof being formed as a fluid absorbing portion, and flow paths 66, 67 connecting the communication flow path 71 to the outer periphery of the valve element, the flow paths 66, 67 being formed as fluid discharging portions. In this case, such inconveniences are avoided that fuel pressure operates in the radial direction of the valve element 63 to produce greater sliding resistance between the valve element 63 and a valve case 6c.
