The rough running and misfire detection method involves determining a value of a sine function dependent on the drive shaft (3) position with a first position measurement unit and a value of a cosine function dependent on the drive shaft position with a second position measurement unit and forming an arc tan value from the sine and cosine values that is evaluated by an evaluation unit. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a drive system with an internal combustion engine and an electrical machine.
