Method for producing 2,4,7,9-tetramethyl-5-decine-4,7-diol and/or 3,5-dimethyl-1-hexine-3-ol by ethynylation of methylisobutylketone catalysed with potassium alcoholate is characterised in that it is carried out in a tetrahydronaphthalane environment. The reaction of acetylene with methylisobutylketone is carried out at a temperature of 5 °C to 50 °C and at a pressure of acetylene of up to 50 kPa.
