PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data format whose format efficiency is higher than that of a DVD and which is suitable for the recording and reproduction of multi-value data. SOLUTION: One frame is composed of a plurality of pieces of multi-value data including a plurality of n values (n is an integer≥3), a clock mark being multi-value data for sampling the multi-value data, and frame sink being multi-value data for showing delimitation of a prescribed amount of multi-value data. The data format is provided, wherein effective binary data within one frame is a J word (J is a natural number) when the multi-value data is converted into binary data, and binary data of J×K words composed of K frames (K is a natural number) is an ECC block being a data block for error correction based on a product code.
