A spindle head 8 for centering a tubular yarn carrier, e.g. a bobbin 4, on a rotatable spindle 1 and establishing a driving connection between the carrier and the spindle comprises a metal core 10 which is secureable, e.g. by being a matching fit, in the spindle 1 and a resilient sleeve 14, e.g. of rubber, on said core which has an internally unsupported portion 15 projecting beyond its surface of contact with the core 10, the arrangement being such that when the carrier 4 is not mounted thereon (see Fig. 2, not shown) the largest outer diameter of. the sleeve is on the unsupported portion 15. When, as shown in Fig. 1, a carrier is placed over the sleeve 14 the unsupported portion 15 is displaced inwardly and the resulting radial pressure between the portion 15 and the carrier 4 ensures a driving connection. In Fig. 2 the undistorted shape of the portion 15 is conical; alternatively the portion 15 may be in the form of a spherically ridge or it may have a number of ribs running circumferentially or axially; the unsupported portion 15 may extend upwardly from the core 10. In Fig. 1 a centering head 3 formed on the whorl 2 has a recess 6 wherein a rubber ring 5 is lodged and radially compressed by a conical portion 7 in the bore of the bobbin. |
