APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ANNOUNCING LOCATION BY USING GPS

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for announcing a location by using a GPS(Global Positioning System) are provided to display approach to a selected location on an LCD screen and announce it through a speaker when a user moves to the selected location by using location information registered in a wireless terminal in which a GPS receiver is installed. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a location announcement function through the menu function of his/her portable phone(S201). Then the user inputs a desired target position to an MSM(S201). The MSM judges whether the map data containing the inputted target position exist in a memory part(S203). In case that the map data containing the inputted target position exist in the memory part, the MSM reads the map data from the memory part and calculates the distance and direction from the present location to the target position by using the map data containing the target position and the location appointment data inputted from a GPS receiver(S204). Then the MSM outputs the calculated distance and direction to the user through an LCD part or a speaker(S205).
