The woven tubular fabric (10), which can shrink radially, has an upper and lower woven layer (8,9) with monofilament wefts (1,2) of a material with a high shrinkage action, and low shrinkage multifilament warps (11,12). Fusible filaments (17) are only laid within the tubular fabric at a gap from the weft change points, to be hardened irreversibly by a single application of heat. The fabric is woven on a needle ribbon loom.
