A group controller of elevator comprising a set of upper cage (5U) and lower cage (5D) disposed in one elevator shaft (1S) to elevate/lower independently. Respective floors of a building (1) are classified into a main floor for lower cage (1F) leading to the entrance/exit of the building, a main floor for upper cage (2F) leading to the entrance/exit of the building above the main floor for lower cage (1F), a lower cage preferential zone (DPZ) at the lower layer section of the elevator shaft (1S), an upper cage preferential zone (UPZ) at the upper layer section, and a common zone (CZ) of the upper cage (5U) and lower cage (5D) at the intermediate layer section, and assigned to the upper cage (5U) or lower cage (5D) according to the aforementioned sections where a cage call belongs. The upper cage (5U) and the lower cage (5D) serve preferentially in respective preferential zone (UPZ or DPZ), enter the common zone (CZ) after judging mutual interference, get away from the common zone (CZ) upon receiving a response and shelter at a sheltering floor.
