The device is designed as U-shaped frame (1) with pointed tips (10), a transversal handle (12) at the top and to be adjusted in width with two horizontally positioned screws (11, 13). When the tips (10) are pushed into the soil adjacent to an asparagus plant, two angled cutting blades (2, 3) swivel mounted to the lower ends of the device are moved into a position with their cutting edges (4) touching the frame. When the frame is lifted the blades are swiveled into a horizontal position automatically cutting off the appropriate length of the asparagus.
