PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image recording apparatus in which recording is prevented from being stopped by unexpected lack of empty capacity by selecting at least one or more moving image digital signal processing means with a recordable time matched to target successive recording as a standard. SOLUTION: The moving image recording apparatus includes: a recording means for recording a moving image on a recording medium while using at least one or more moving image digital signal processing means; an empty capacity detecting means for detecting the empty capacity of the recording medium; a recordable time calculating means for calculating the recordable time from the output of the empty capacity detecting means and a data amount required for recording per unit time in each signal processing means; a display means for displaying a kind of the signal processing means and the recordable time corresponding to the kind; and a selecting means for selecting the signal processing means.
