<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material for improving compatibility of the thermal stability when charging a lithium ion secondary battery and the excellent charging-discharging cycle characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the positive electrode active material for the lithium ion secondary battery which is expressed by a general formula LiMO2 (where, M is at least one kind of heavy metal element selected from a group consisting of Co, Ni, Fe, Mn and Cr) includes a step of obtaining a heavy metal oxide with the grain size of primary grains of 0.01-0.5 μm, and the grain size of secondary grains of 0.1-10.0 μm by thermally decomposing grains in which the rate of the minor axis grain size to the major axis grain size is in a range between 0.5 and 1.0, a step of obtaining a mixed raw material in which the ratio of (lithium) to (heavy metal) of the heavy metal oxide and lithium salt is in a range between 0.98 and 1.01, and a step of baking the mixed raw material at 750-1,100°C under atmosphere. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
