A film (3) in e.g. polycarbonate, is printed with two layers. The first is a surface-covering (4) or background. The second is a decorative layer (5). Screen printing, photogravure, flexographic printing or offset is employed, with a compatible ink. The film, now a form of label (2), is attached to the internal wall of the mold. Injection molding is carried out conventionally, followed by extraction of the decorated molding. The printed label is appropriately-shaped, especially by thermoforming, before introduction into the mold. The printed layer covering the surface is produced by screen-printing, whilst the decoration is offset-printed. The label outer surface which will contact the mold wall is printed. It is then protected by e.g. a layer of lacquer or an abrasion-resistant layer. The printing is alternatively carried out on the internal surface of the film, which will contact the molding. Having produced the label, the printed surface is covered by a protective film which can be peeled off. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding decorated substrate or molding.
