<p>A cost effective method for fitting a gas generator to an airbag protection system has a cylindrical housing (10) for the gas generator secured into a shaped mounting (16). The generator housing is provided with venting holes (14) spaced to provide a neutral thrust when activated. The improvement has similar size of venting holes with some of the holes used to secure the generator into the mounting site. The fitting uses conventional fasteners, e.g. self tapping screws, pop rivets, which seal the particular holes and prevent gas from escaping and damaging the airbag mounting. The folded airbag is secured by clamping between the gas generator and the mounting or by clamping directly to the mounting.</p> |
