PROPER TUBING INSTALLATION TESTING METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR A PERISTALTIC PUMP

A tubing installation checking device is provided for detecting proper installation of a tubing (22) along a tube receiving channel (26) in a peristaltic pump (10) of the type having a tube receiving channel (26) and a door (14) for holding a tubing (22) therein. The tubing installation checking device includes a pressure sensor (44) held in the peristaltic pump (10) positioned along the tube receiving channel downstream from the pumping mechanism (30) for sensing pressure in the tubing (22) and for providing a signal representing the sensed pressure. A valve (52) is provided held in the peristaltic pump (10) along the tube receiving channel (26) downstream from the pressure sensor (44) for closing the tubing (22) when it is installed in the tube receiving channel (26).
