PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting a position which can simply detect the position even when the receiving state of a GPS signal is bad. SOLUTION: The apparatus 10 for detecting the position comprises a GPS signal receiver 21 for receiving the GPS signal, a direction indicator 22 for measuring the advancing direction of a portable terminal 30, a GPS information calculating unit 24 for calculating position information and GPS information of the terminal 30 based on the GPS signal received by the receiver 21, and a memory 26 for storing the GPS information calculated by the calculating unit 24 when the receiving state of the GPS signal is good. When the receiving state of the GPS signal is bad, the position of the terminal 30 is calculated based on the GPS information stored in the memory 26 and the direction information measured by the indicator 22.
