<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular occupant constraining device for more reliably protecting an occupant by controlling the behaviors of the chest and the head of the occupant to approximately coincide to each other in side or oblique collision including lateral acceleration components. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided chest behavior control means 13 and head behavior control means 14. When the side or oblique collision of a vehicle 1 is detected by vehicle collision detecting means 11, 12, the behaviors of the chest Pb and the head Ph of the occupant P are detected by behavior detecting means 15, 16. While the behaviors of the chest Pb and the head Ph of the occupant P are made to approximately coincide to each other by using control means 17, a control signal for suppressing the lateral replacement of the head Ph within an allowable range L up to a side wall portion W is output to the chest behavior control means 13 and the head behavior control means 14. Thereby, the interference of the head Ph with the side wall portion W is suppressed with the rotating motion of the head Ph using a neck as a rotational center being suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
