PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning agent for metallic products which has a low risk, is effective under mild conditions and is also excellent in operability, and to provide a cleaning method using the cleaning agent. SOLUTION: The cleaning agent comprises a compound having an amino group, a hydroxyl group or a carboxy group in each carbon atom of an adjacent carbon-carbon bond, particularly, an aromatic compound having an amino group, a hydroxyl group or a carboxy group at an adjacent position on an aromatic ring.
